Tip & Bill Splitter

Enter the bill, choose a tip and the number of people to see exactly what everyone owes.

How the split is worked out

The tip is the bill multiplied by the tip percentage. The total is the bill plus the tip. Each person pays the total divided by the number of people. For an 85 bill with a 15% tip and two people, the tip is 12.75, the total is 97.75 and each person pays 48.88.

Tipping customs differ

There is no universal rule. In the United States, 15% to 20% is common in restaurants. In much of Europe a service charge is often already included and a small extra tip is optional. In many other places tipping is not expected at all. Check the bill for a service charge before adding a tip, so you do not tip twice.

Splitting fairly

  • Equal split works when everyone ate and drank a similar amount.
  • Itemised split is fairer when one person had far more. Work out each person's items first, then add a share of the tip.
  • Shared dishes can be divided equally, with individual drinks added separately.

Rounding up

Ticking the rounding option makes each share a whole number, which is easier to pay in cash. The extra amount simply increases the tip, and the tool shows you how much.
